Music in Pictures Contest: Better days

I wanted to start this post saying thank you to those (few) of you who decided to participate. I loved each of your interpretations! Thanks to Livvy30, Gilly Gee, Madoqua, The Tri Road, Ali Muskett.

Here we go with another song for the weekly Music in Pictures Contest. Fortunately enough, I had my day off today so that I had all the time to listen to some good music and choose a song for this week! Am still struggling with the picture though, but am confident that I will come up with something before the end of this post!

The song I’ve chosen this week is the soundtrack of the movie Eat, Pray, Love. I love this movie and dream about doing something similar one day! I saw this movie in London for the first time and since then I watched it again and again, I guess more than 50 times. I also read the book by Elizabeth Gilbert, which is even better than the movie, here are some of my favourite quotes:

“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it”

“When you’re lost in those woods, it sometimes takes you a while to realize that you are lost. For the longest time, you can convince yourself that you’ve just wandered off the path, that you’ll find your way back to the trailhead any moment now. Then night falls again and again, and you still have no idea where you are, and it’s time to admit that you have bewildered yourself so far off the path that you don’t even know from which direction the sun rises anymore”

“I crossed the street to walk in the sunshine.”

“I’m choosing happiness over suffering, I know I am. I’m making space for the unknown future to fill up my life with yet-to-come surprises.”

Anyway, let’s talk about the song: Better Days by Eddie Vedder. Here’s the video with some scenes from the movie…

I feel part of the universe open up to meet me
My emotion so submerged, broken down to kneel in
Once listening, the voices they came
Had to somehow greet myself, read myself
Heard vibrations within my cells, in my cells
Singing, “Ah-la-ah-ah, ah-la-ah-ah”

My love is safe for the universe
See me now, I’m bursting
On one planet, so many turns
Different worlds
Singing, “Ah-la-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, ah”

Fill my heart with discipline
Put there for the teaching
In my head see clouds of stairs
Help me as I’m reaching
The future’s paved with better days

Not running from something
I’m running towards the day
Wide awake

A whisper once quiet
Now rising to a scream
Right in me

I’m falling, free falling
Words calling me
Up off my knees

I’m soaring and, darling,
You’ll be the one that I can need
Still be free

Our future’s paved with better days

We need to believe that “the future’s paved with better days” even when things are bad and we should be looking forward to live better days. Am doing so, what about you?

“Every week I will choose a popular song and post a picture that in my opinion represents or relates to the song. It might be related to the title or to a particular line, or it can be an abstract interpretation of the meaning of the song.. You are all invited to join, all you need to do is to click Follow so you don’t miss the weekly contest and entitle your post with Music in pictures contest and the title of the song. To give the opportunity to other bloggers to see your post just insert a link to this post and you’ll be all listed at the end of it!”
